Handcrafted in Mauritius

Hardwood BoardsHand-FinishedMauritius

Boards worthy of the table they land on.

Premium chopping and charcuterie boards, shaped from character-grade hardwoods, finished food-safe, and engraved to make them unmistakably yours.

What Mau-Byo Is

One board that works as hard as it looks.

Most boards make you choose: a workhorse for the knife, or a showpiece for the platter. Mau-Byo refuses the choice. Every board is built dual-purpose — dense hardwood that shrugs off daily chopping, finished to a standard that carries a charcuterie spread straight to the table.

Each piece is shaped by hand in Mauritius, from selected hardwoods with the grain doing the talking. No two boards are the same, because no two trees are.

I. Not About Boards

Most people looking at Mau-Byo would say: he makes chopping boards. That's not the point — those are simply where it starts. Mau-Byo makes objects that get kept. Objects that improve with age instead of becoming obsolete.

The hours are the product.

II. One Pair of Hands

There is no factory behind Mau-Byo. No team, no production line — one maker, born in Mauritius, buying his timber and hardware on this island and building every piece from first cut to final oiling. When a board leaves the workshop, one person has touched every millimetre of it.

Made by one. Made of Mauritius.

III. The Material Decides

Nothing is stained to hide it, nothing covered to disguise it. The grain is the design — imperfections become personality, and no two boards ever repeat, because no two trees do.

The grain should speak.

IV. Made in Small Numbers

Mau-Byo doesn't chase volume. Every batch is small enough to inspect by hand — which usually means there are fewer boards in a given month than there are people who want one.

Ten exceptional, never a hundred ordinary.

V. What You're Actually Buying

A board is a decade of Tuesday dinners and Saturday tables. Buy it once, and the only decision left is what to put on it.

And the sale is where the relationship starts, not where it ends. The first refresh of any board is free. If it dulls, bring it back. If it breaks, it gets repaired — no questions asked. Nobody throws away an heirloom; its maker stands by every piece for as long as he's alive to stand by it.

Owned. Not replaced.

Once you've used one, an ordinary board just feels like waiting for a Mau-Byo.

Built to outlast the trend.

Built to be inherited, not replaced.

What I Make

Two doors. One workshop.

Why Mau-Byo

Built different, on purpose.

Built in Mauritius. Full stop.

Not assembled here. Not imported and finished. Every cut, every joint, every pass through sandpaper happens on this island, by one pair of hands. Local hardwoods where possible. Local hardware throughout. Made here means made here.

Yours, cut into it.

Names, dates, logos, coordinates. Precision laser engraving burns your mark into the wood permanently — no peel, no fade. It's why Mau-Byo boards get gifted instead of bought, and kept instead of replaced.

No two will ever be the same.

Grain direction, figure, colour — every board is a read of the tree it came from. The dimensions are consistent. Everything else is unique. What you receive exists once. No reorder, no duplicate, no second one just like it.

The grain does the talking.

No stain, no dye, no attempt to make the wood look like something it isn't. What you see is what grew — figure, colour, character selected for, not hidden behind a finish. Honest material, honestly presented.

The standard never drops.

A small compact board gets the same care as a full end-grain showpiece. The price changes. The attention doesn't. Every piece — whatever tier, whatever species — leaves the bench finished to the same single standard: the one I'd keep for myself.

Safe for your table. Built for your lifetime.

Every finish that touches the wood is food-grade — no varnish, no synthetic sealant, nothing that doesn't belong near what you eat. The same care that makes it safe makes it last. One board, properly maintained, will outlive the kitchen it lives in.

The last board you'll ever buy.

Plastic warps. Bamboo splinters. Hardwood gets better — richer grain, deeper character, a surface that improves with every meal. Mau-Byo boards are built from dense, food-safe hardwood that outlasts every alternative on the market. Not a purchase you repeat. One board, for life.

One board. Two jobs. No compromise.

Most boards choose a side — the chopping block or the platter. Mau-Byo refuses the choice. Every board is built dual-purpose — dense hardwood that shrugs off daily chopping, finished to a standard that carries a charcuterie spread straight to the table.

Every Mau-Byo board is backed by a lifetime manufacturer's warranty — built to last, and warrantied to match.

Care Ritual

A board for decades, not seasons.

Wash by hand

Warm water, mild soap. Never the dishwasher, never a long soak.

Dry upright

Stand it on edge so air reaches both faces evenly.

Oil, as it asks for it

Food-grade mineral oil or board butter — at least once a month, weekly if the board sees heavy daily use.

Refresh by hand

If it ever dulls, a light hand-sand and fresh oil bring it back to day one.
